12 Books with Jewish Main Characters!

12 books with jewish main characters

Hiya, y’all! This year the Jewish holiday of Chanukah (also known as Hanukkah) takes place from December 12, 2017 to December 20, 2017, and I thought it would be nice to put together a small list of books with Jewish protagonists.

Note: I am not Jewish myself so I am not an authority on the representation within these novels. If a Jewish person says it’s bad rep, then there you go. Also, if you are Jewish and one of these is problematic or offensive in any way, please don’t hesitate to let me know and I will adjust my post.

All books marked with an asterisk (*) are books that I know to be #OwnVoices. I believe one of the unmarked are #OwnVoices, as well, but I was unable to verify and thus erred on the side of caution.

Young Adult

✡️ The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli*
✡️ The Girl with the Red Balloon by Katherine Locke*
✡️ Avi Cantor Has Six Months to Live by Sacha Lamb*

✡️ Playing with Matches by Suri Rosen*
✡️ Gone, Gone, Gone by Hannah Moskowitz*
✡️ Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Mein*

New Adult / Adult

✡️ The Remaking of Corbin Wale by Roan Parrish*
✡️Knit One, Girl Two by Shira Glassman*
✡️ Kill Game by Cordelia Kingsbridge

✡️ Hold Me Down by Sara Taylor Woods*
✡️ Mature Content by Megan Erickson & Santino Hassell
✡️ Just Business by Anna Zabo

Have you read any of these? If so, did you enjoy them? Do you have other recommendations for books with Jewish characters?
