BOOK TAG: Rise of the Guardians

26dac044bc892ef2f03f5944a95887d4

Hi hi, y’all!

Welcome to the first book tag post of the new year! I was tagged by the lovely Ash of Wild Heart Reads, who was tagged by Laura @ The Book Corps (also the creator), to do the Rise of the Guardians book tag! And I’m gonna try to do it with only books I read in 2018.

So without further ado….

~*~

Jackson Overland aka Jack Frost: Name an icy character that is actually very lovable and sweet

40107125Brand Forsythe from HIS COCKY VALET by Cole McCade

Brand is very loving and caring, but he’s also quite formal and likes to stick to set rules. In the beginning, he seems to be an icy, forbidding man with impossible standards and unshakable opinions. But once Ash, and the reader, really gets to know him, he sees the soft, melty center inside Brand and their relationship is able to blossom into something sweet and precious and so very needed for both of them.

Nicholas St. North aka Santa Claus: Name a fun and jolly character that could actually cut a bitch

Samir from DAMAGED GOODS by Talia Hibbertunnamed

Oh Samir, my sweet angel. He’s so fun and likes to joke around with his friends and the people he cares about! He tries to bring humor to every situation–though he knows when it is and is not appropriate and adjusts accordingly–but he can also get serious in an instant. Samir doesn’t hesitate to protect Laura from harm from her husband, and the only reason he doesn’t lay Daniel out flat is because Laura asks him not to.

Samir is a man who likes to be happy, but who could cut a bitch in a second in the name of protecting and defending his loved ones.

Toothiana aka The Tooth Fairy: Name a lovable book that is dear to your heart (and is so sweet it gives you a tooth ache!)

41712479RAFE by Rebekah Weatherspoon

This book is just everything fun and good in the world! I kept smiling throughout the whole thing because all the characters are so wonderfully lovable and precious. Rafe is our big, tattooed biker with an absolute heart of gold who’d do anything for Sloan and her daughters. And Sloan is a genius (literally) and the youngest Black woman doctor–she’s insecure when it comes to certain things, but she also doesn’t hesitate to go after what she wants. Finally, the twins are just a joy to read about! They’re so cute and fun and I loved every single moment they were on page!

Sanderson Mansnoozie aka The Sandman: Name a book that put you to sleep (figuratively or literally)

ANGELS CAN’T SWIM by Alexandra McCann40752201

This book wasn’t bad, per say, but it was executed so poorly. Most of the issues had to do with the short length, as well as the editing. The story could’ve been a great one about friendship and overcoming difficult obstacles and decisions in their lives, but it just didn’t achieve the goal the author was going for.

You can see my full review for more.

E. Aster Bunnymund aka The Easter Bunny: Name a book that fills you with hope

Nine-of-Swords-Reversed-coverNINE OF SWORDS, REVERSED by Xan West

This short story is about a couple currently in a relationship, who’ve been together for several years, but are currently going through some issues–both separately and together. Through the help of their friend, and each other, Dev and Noam are able to find their ways back to really communicating with each other.

But all throughout, even as they struggle, the two of them are so loving and helpful and caring towards each other. Both Dev and Noam look out for the other how they can and do their best to help and care for their individual needs. This short gives me hope for finding and having a relationship like Dev and Noam’s.

Mim aka The Man in the Moon: Name a wise character that acts as a mentor/parental figure

Zavier Demos from COUNTERPOINT by Anna Zabo39675785

Zav’s Older Brother tendencies make their first appearance in SYNCOPATION, with the way cares about Ray and is constantly concerned with his mental state. (Though the feelings are far from Brotherly in many instances.) And it continues into COUNTERPOINT, Dom’s book.

Some of my favorite scenes from this book are when Dom and Zav are talking about Dom’s feelings and about Adrian, and Zav trying to tell him to be careful while at the same time telling him to be open with Adrian. I loved when Zav asked for Adrian’s name so he could do the Kink Scene version of a background check on him to make sure he was someone worthy of Dom.

Pitch Black aka The Nightmare King: Name a villain/antihero you can’t help but love

32768520Princess Maram from MIRAGE by Somaiya Daud

Okay, so, Maram is a straight up bitch who deserves some of the hate she gets within the book, and I would definitely qualify her as a villain, to an extent. BUT. She’s also a teenage girl who lashes out because she was raised to be cruel and learned to hurt others before they could hurt her. Does the suffering she’s gone through excuse her behavior towards Amani, Idris, and everyone else? No. But upon reading this book, it’s impossible to deny that she’s a complex character with complex motives and a fucked up childhood. I’m really looking forward to seeing more of her in the sequel.

I’m not going to tag anyone, but if you’ve got a blog and want to do this, please do so and tag me so I can check it out!

If you don’t have a blog and want to answer these anyway, which characters and books would you choose for these categories?

  1. Ahhh thank you so much for doing my tag!! Definitely agree with Zavier as a protective figure, I freaking love Counterpoint (but I love Syncopation more!) And I have His Cocky Valet on my TBR, I can’t wait to read it! I adore Cole McCade’s books! Thanks again 💛
